Ritchie Regodon

Wonderfactory Artist, Hong Kong, China

Ritchie (b.1973) works in quality assurance within the manufacturing industry, and travels around Asia visiting factories in different cities. When he is back home in Hong Kong, he spends a significant amount of his leisure time on toy photography.

Ritchie’s interest in pop culture was ignited with his first Bearbrick by Medicom Toy: The blue Chomper by KAWS, which awoke him to appreciate the art and design individually applied to the simplicity of the bear-shaped canvas. His Bearbrick collection of mainly 100% and 400% sizes started and it hasn’t stopped growing since.

In 2012, Ritchie began to feel that each of his Bearbrick figures has its own personality and saw expression in their existence. He started using photography on his figures to experiment with the expression of their personalities, by pairing them with items as props that ‘get along’ with them. Ritchie draws tremendous pleasure from this process, and enjoys bringing his Bearbricks to life through his photographic lens.

Ritchie draws his inspirations by actively creating interactions around him, with his community, art exhibitions, pop culture expos and his friendships with other talented artists in the toy designer community. He travels around regional toy fairs to talk and meet up with toy designers, but he is most creatively productive when he indulges in the simple pleasures of life, such as when he walks down the streets of his city.

Ritchie is a regular collaborator of local toy designers in Hong Kong, who consider him gifted for having a creative vision on toys, and enjoys sharing them with everyone through the camera’s viewfinder.
