I am director, they are actors, and they enact the stories that I want to tell the world.

Introducing Wonderfactory Artist Fauzie Helmy (b. 1975), a multi-faculty lecturer in photography and visual arts at the Art Institute of Surakata, the Jakarta State University, as well as the Creative Media State Polytechnic in Indonesia.

He is regarded as a pioneer of toy photography in Indonesia, making news as early as 2005, when he started being passionately involved in efforts for preservation of wildlife, using toy photography to highlight the state of threatened existence of animals in his country. With plastic animals in the richness of the Indonesian fauna, Helmy’s toy photography emits a certain sadness at the disappearance of the animals, and at their homelands’ rate of destruction.

His works are all the more amazing given the fact that Helmy uses entirely practical effects and does little to no post production editing to his images.

Helmy’s work was published in 2013 as the book “Dunia Tanpa Nyawa - A World without Life”, in collaboration with toy designers from the U.S., Japan, Croatia, and other parts of the world. He has held solo and group exhibitions of his toy photography since 2012, including one in Madrid, Spain in October 2014, and with Wonderfactory in Shanghai in October 2018.  Helmy also hosts the TV program ‘Capture’, which looks at sites suitable for toy photography in Indonesia.
